Important Things To Carry Aboard Long-Haul Flights

by Don Zerna

It sure is exciting to take an overseas vacation. But you can't say the same for long-haul flights needed to get there. But you can make time fly faster if your carry-on luggage has the right things, making being stuck in the plane bearable.

Don't forget to bring a portable gadget that you currently fancy. If you have some form of entertainment within reach, you can put your mind off the hours. Make sure your favorite tracks are stored in your MP3 player. Save some blockbusters in your pocket video player. You may also choose to bring a portable gaming console or your e-book reader.

For an individual who isn't tech-savvy, nothing can beat the good old pocket book or magazine. The best time to read that wonderful novel you have heard about is while you're stuck in an airplane. If it's your first time to set foot in your destination, bring magazines that will prepare you for the culture of the place.

Not only can puzzles like sudoku or crosswords maintain mental sharpness, but it will also keep your mind preoccupied. You may write entries in your journal or draft blogs on your laptop. Finish some paperwork for the office so that you don't have to worry about it once your vacation is through.

A grumbling stomach makes everything harder to bear. Don't forget to bring some snacks which you can munch on while aboard the plane. Maintain being in high spirits by going for what you consider as comfort foods. However, avoid those which can leave you with a stomach upset, such as those difficult to digest. Likewise, steer clear of something that smells.

See to it that you have certain things in your carry-on luggage that will protect you from the cold cabin air. A sweatshirt or jacket is important to have around. You may use your towel as a blanket momentarily. Having an extra pair of socks also helps. Pick up some lip balm and moisturizing lotion past the security to prevent having dry skin.

Another great way to make long-haul flights more bearable is by getting some sleep. Taking an exciting vacation may leave you with sleepless nights. It's important, however, to have the right tools within easy reach. An eye mask and a pair of ear plugs will help you get some sleep, and they're also a discreet way to tell chatty seatmates to "go away".
