One of the best hotels in Africa! Views to die for. Food to die for!

We spent three nights in Nanyuki, in order to write a great review of Mount Kenya Safari Club.

First we had our own tour of the wildlife sanctuary, with saved animals and then we met Stefanie Powers (the US TV star from Hart to Hart) ). The room was superb and all of the tiny touches were there, flowers on bed, log fire land on our return from dinner.

By this time, we required a rest from game drives and the Fairmont Mt Kenya Safari Club provided that. It was like stepping into another place and time. Each afternoon we had tea on the lawn overlooking the pool, the maze and Mount Kenya as the sun set.

Great marabou storks and stylish grey crowned cranes rambled about, the second on the lookout for insecure sandwiches and tea cakes.

Whilst at the Mount Kenya Safari Club, the staff kindly told us about the new Lily Pond Arts Centre on the equator in Nanyuki.

The Safari Club staff were adamant that we paid a visit to the massive art gallery, as it displays cost-effective modern art from East Africa's top recent artists, away from the hustle of town life.

You can opt to either absorb the atmosphere of this serene and special African arts place, or meet the "Artists in Residence". The Art Gallery homes art graduates from art schools in Nairobi, Kenya who are on full-time, long term placements at the arts centre, producing and displaying new cheap art works.

This new art studio in Nanyuki, aims to operate as a springboard for young artists to launch their art careers, whilst permitting safari visitors to buy original pieces of art.

Safari guests can also enjoy a healthy lunch on a deck, overlooking a big lily pond.

With the great Mount Kenya Mountain as a background, art visitors can also enjoy watching the white egret, hunting the frogs in the pool!

What Kenyan safari guests find extraordinary is that the equator slices clean through the middle of this Arts Centre. This means that you can view provoking African art in both the Southern Hemisphere and the Northern Hemisphere!

This new Arts Centre in Nanyuki, has just installed a new equator sculpture, the Wish World, which is installed precisely at 0000000. Everyone writes down their wishes and then hangs them onto the "Wish Globe".

The recent Arts Centre is also a chance to buy special hand- crafted African gifts like beaded sandals, recycled flip flop toys, African masks, Glass chimes, Kenyan metal geckos and a lot more unusual African gift concepts.
