The Greatest of Houston Attractions
Houston is one of the most populated cities in the US, which means there are all types of fun and exciting things worth doing there. Whether you're a local Houston resident or someone visiting for the very first time below is a list of the top things you should do while you are in the town.
Minute Maid Park:
Minute Maid Park is an excellent spot to visit during baseball season. You can go on tours of Minute Maid Park if the Astros aren't playing at a reasonable price. The retracting roof is really convenient considering the heat and humidity of Houston in the summertime. Often it is over 100 degrees outside but inside the stadium is nice and cold. Tickets are extremely fairly priced, making it an inexpensive alternative option to your daily routine.
Old Town Spring:
Old Town Spring is found just north of Houston in Spring, TX. It is a great little town where people come to stroll around the tree-lined streets and check out over 150 interesting shops, studios, boutiques and restaurants. History enthusiasts can enjoy two great museums. The Spring Historic Museum contains mementos of the beginning of Spring and the culture of that age. They also have a Civil War Museum which is a fun and fascinating way to spend an afternoon. Old Town Spring is most renowned for their festivals. If you come during the appropriate time of year you'll find the popular Texas Crawfish and Music Festival, Pet Fest, Wine Festival, Longhorn Rod Run or the Home for Holidays festival.
Museum of natural science:
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a large museum which includes exhibits, a planetarium, a butterfly Center, and an IMAX Theatre. The six story butterfly center is a great spot to spend a couple of hours looking around at the stunning scenery as the butterflies land on your outstretched arms. Be certain to bring your camera as most exhibits allow you to take pictures of dinosaur skeletons, space-station modules and an enormous collection of mineral specimens. They also have a large gift shop with a wide selection of souvenirs for the youngsters or yourself.
Tunnels:
Houston has an underground which is a system of tunnels that link office towers to banks, eateries, hotels, retail shops and the Houston Theater District. The system comprises of roughly seven miles of tunnels that link 95 city blocks. It started out linking 2 movie theaters downtown and now consists of unique Houston restaurants, souvenir shops, newsstands, and food courts similar to what one would find in a major shopping mall. It is becoming more and more of a traveller attraction.
Rodeo:
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the nation's largest live entertainment and livestock exhibition. The event is held in Reliant Stadium and lasts twenty days long. The entire event is broken into several parts. The 1st part is the gourmet food stands filled with all sorts of "Texan" type tastings. The second part is the world's largest livestock show located within Reliant Arena. Professional breeders come from all over of the country to take part in the cattle show. Outside of the stadium is a carnival filled full of entertainment rides and differing kinds of food to eat. The rodeo aspect is located within the Reliant Stadium and comprises bull riding, barrel racing, calf scrambles and, toward the end, a Mutton Bustin ' which is a favourite among the attendees. The night ends with a live performance from some of the nation's biggest recording artists.
